Kids’ Clothes Week Challenge, Day One

This week, we’re participating in the Kids’ Clothes Week Challenge led by Meg of elsiemarley.com.  We’ll be back to our regular posting schedule next week.

Jo’s Update

Success!  I completed an hour of sewing today.  I don’t have any finished items to display today, but I should have some things tomorrow.

I worked on eight diapers for Skeeter, as she is outgrowing her old ones.  I made pocket diapers for Scooter that subsequently disintegrated due to our hard water, but I saved the inserts and I’m using them in contour diapers made of old T-shirts.  Tonight I got the inserts stitched in and the velcro stitched to the outer layer.  Tomorrow I will serge them together, then turn them right side out and add the rest of the velcro.  Then I can start working on bigger covers – I have the pattern ready to go, so those should go quickly.

I am a veteran procrastinator, and tonight was no exception.  But I had already decided that I would do my hour as soon as the kids were asleep, so as soon as they were down I started my bread in the bread machine.  This gave me an artificial deadline – the dough cycle on my machine is ninety minutes long, and once the dough is done, I have to knead it and roll it out.  So this gave me thirty minutes to clean up the kitchen, have a snack, and check my email before I had to start sewing.

And because I know me too well – as soon as my hour started I turned off my computer and put it across the room from me, hid the TV remote, and put my cell phone in its charger, out of reach.

Tomorrow I should have some finished product pictures!

Wendy’s Update

I feel a little like I’ve finished the race dead last with only one shoe on and nobody to greet me at the finish line, but I put in my hour this evening. Whew.

I didn’t get to do any actual sewing, but I did some cutting, pattern work, and other preparations so that I can make some visible progress tomorrow night.

If all goes as planned, by the end of the week I will have completed two pairs of linen pants, a set of pajamas, a hoodie, and some fleece pants.
