If you’re not aware of the Southern tradition, black-eyed peas are a traditional New Year’s Day food, served with cornbread and greens, to bring luck for the year to come… but I just can’t do it. So, as a nod to my New Orleans roots, I have decided that red beans will just have to stand in at our house. It’s also a great way to use the ham bone from Christmas dinner, and a tasty, super cheap way to feed us all while we recover from holiday excess. Continue reading
